I just finished reading The Alchemist. The most inspiring book i've ever read so far.

I rated this book 9.95/10 cause the rest 0.05 has been spent by my failure to try figuring out the content just by looking at its title. Lol. I assumed it was about a boy who can genuinely transform a metal to gold, or a person who combined many chemicals and mixed them up, then they collided each other and produced such an amazing substance that could drastically change the world.

okay, my fantasy goes too far.

Yet, this book tells about how to find your destiny and meaningful life through different people you meet everyday, omens, signs, questions, decisions, that you have around you. All of them become a clue in finding your destiny, figuring out what you are created for, why do you even exist, and what is your life for. At first, it was like somewhat confusing for me cause i thought it didn't reflect to its title. I mean, "The Alchemist". Everybody knows that The Alchemist can be defined as a practitioner of alchemy. But it was about a boy named Santiago, who rather chose to be a shepherd than a priest. Because he may have thought that "i could travel all over the world if i was a shepherd". Then, once he had become a shepherd, one day he dreamed of finding a treasure. That dream troubled him everyday, he kept wondering about it over and over again until it comes the day that he should really follow his recurring dream. Finally, he totally changed his mind, he left his current job and started to pursue his dream to find a treasure hidden at the foot of the Egyptian Pyramids. He wandered across the world, moved from place to another place, met a lot of strangers, new places, new experiences, new lessons until he finally found his destiny and meaningful life through his journey.

Here, im going to add some quotes based on that book. To be honest, if i could, i wanna quote every-single-word about it, like, i think all the words are amazing and really motivating, but by giving you some, you can definitely think that this book is marvellous and worth to read:

“The simple things are also the most extraordinary things, and only the wise can see them.”

“Everyone seems to have a clear idea of how other people should lead their lives, but none about his or her own.”

“Tell your heart that the fear of suffering is worse than the suffering itself. And that no heart has ever suffered when it goes in search of its dreams, because every second of the search is a second's encounter with God and with eternity.”

“I don’t live in either my past or my future. I’m interested only in the present. If you can concentrate always on the present, you’ll be a happy man. Life will be a party for you, a grand festival, because life is the moment we’re living now.”

“Why do we have to listen to our hearts?" the boy asked.
"Because, wherever your heart is, that is where you will find your treasure.”

“When we strive to become better than we are, everything around us becomes better, too.”

“Maktub" (It is written.)”

“No matter what he does, every person on earth plays a central role in the history of the world. And normally he doesn't know it.”

“Making a decision was only the beginning of things. When someone makes a decision, he is really diving into a strong current that will carry him to places he had never dreamed of when he first made the decision.”

"Maktub,” she said. “If I am really part of your dream, you’ll come back one day.”

“But if you believe yourself worthy of the thing you fought so hard to get, then you become an instrument of God, you help the Soul of the World, and you understand why you are here.”

“People are afraid to pursue their most important dreams, because they feel that they don't deserve them, or that they'll be unable to achieve them.”

“I'm going away," he said. "And I want you to know that I'm coming back. I love you because...."
"Don't say anything," Fatima interrupted. "One is loved because one is loved. No reason is needed for loving.”

“Dreams are the language of God.”

“God has a prepared path for us to follow. We just have to read the omens he has left for us.”

“All things are manifestations of one thing only.”

“There was a language in the world that everyone understood, a language the boy had used throughout the time that he was trying to improve things at the shop. It was the language of enthusiasm, of things accomplished with love and purpose, and as part of a search for something believed in and desired.”

“Whoever you are, or whatever it is that you do, when you really want something, it's because that desire originated in the soul of the universe. It's your mission on earth.”

“Believe that if Allah wants you to know something, someone will tell you.”

“Fatima went back to her tent, and, when daylight came, she went out to do the chores she had done for years. But everything had changed. The boy was no longer at the oasis, and the oasis would never again have the same meaning it had had only yesterday. It would no longer be a place with fifty thousand palm trees and three hundred wells, where the pilgrims arrived, relieved at the end of their long journeys. From that day on, the oasis would be an empty place for her.
From that day on, it was the desert that would be important. She would look to it everyday, and would try to guess which star the boy was following in search of his treasure. She would have to send her kisses on the wind, hoping that the wind would touch the boy's face, and would tell him that she was alive. That she was waiting for him, a woman awaiting a courageous man in search of his treasure. From that day on, the desert would represent only one thing to her: the hope for his return.”

“Why do they make things so complicated?"
"So that those who have the responsibility for understanding can understand.," he said. "Imagine if everyone went around transforming lead into gold. Gold would lose its value."
"It's those who are persistent, and willing to study things deeply, who achieve the Master Work.”

“It's true; life really is generous to those who pursue their destiny”

“Anyone who interferes with the destiny of another thing never will discover his own.”

"When you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it."

“And she already has her treasure: it’s you.”

Anyway, i just found Paulo Coelho's Tumblr or maybe it was created by his fans but i don't care i will be definitely a follower! i bet he's such a wise man or the wisest man ever i might say. How i wish we were in the same age or if only our age difference was not so far, kayaknya gue bakal jatuh cinta deh. Huahahaha

I believe this book was destined for me. i just knew this book, right after i had such a long talk with 34 years old woman, while i was heading home from my campus. At that night, we walked home together and talked about our own life experience. I was more be a listener at that time, she talked more than me. Indeed, cause she's older than me that i need to respect her hehe. She talked about her anxiety cause she's not married yet in her age, she was so upset and worried but she still believes that Allah has the best plan for her, how she struggled upon all the ups and downs, dissapointment, joys, tears, and everything that happened in her life, how she realized her own destiny, how she dealt with that, and how she enjoyed her life to the fullest. I gained a lot of life lessons from her. She's so amazing, she's indeed a tough woman. Thanks kak! :D you really are my inspiration :D

And in the end, when we wanted to end up our very long conversation, she said

"if you wanna know more about life, go read this book. The Alchemist".

Night :-)
